baby bird update

they did appear out of the eggs--here is a photo from last week, when they were newborn and creepy in that new bird way, all wispy hair and unopened eyes. sadly, though, when i checked the nest this morning after the long weekend, it was completely empty. i like to think they hired a small moving van and resettled somewhere nicer, but...

Summer Spot

The roof at the apartment. My roommate grows herbs. I use the basil to make a cocktail: good gin, soda, the basil, ice and fresh squeezed lemon juice.

these are now baby birds.

i took this photo only days ago, and over the weekend the eggs turned into babies. wispy-hairy pink babies. they are not cute, but i'll take a picture of them anyway as an update. the mama built the nest in the kitchen window at work, and would fly away every time we walked in the room, until we put up a little cardboard privacy screen. i named the egg on the far right "math," but don't have names for the others quite yet.

it was a pretty good one. the second one, however--a green one--was even better.

i'm happy to report that there are serious signs of life, though some of the area where i plant and make and do has only been out from under snow for about a month. not least of the signs: the reappearance of toys we found last year while digging around.
